Cyco defender Diogo Neves (red) is denied by the Singapore FC's keeper
Cyco completed a roller-coaster week by beating last season's 4th placed team Singapore FC. Cyco started the week by demolishing hUbBy 9-0 but threw away the midweek Cup tie 1-0 to Serious11 after sq802's words about poor finishing became true. Nevertheless, it seems that the team have put this disappointing result behind them to notch this 5-0 win.
Cyco drew first blood in 108 seconds when midfield maestro Doug Wright charged through the defence and finished with an exquisite chip. Striker Luca Aquino doubled the lead when he beat the offside trap to slot the ball past the keeper. Things got worst for Singapore FC when wing wizard Denis Pacheco headed a cross in just before the half-hour mark. Then, Cyco took their foot off the pedal but defender Tuomas Toiminen had different ideas. He took advantage of bad defending from Singapore FC to notch a brace in the second half and bring the final score to 5-0.
"I am proud of the lads in terms of their response to the undeserved Cup loss. It looks like they took it out on poor Singapore FC. We just need to continue this performance for the rest of the season and the title will be ours," sq802 said.
National winger Ng Yeow Yong admitted that his team was outclassed. "They were superior in defence and midfield. I was a virtual spectator as (Doug) Wright and company were just hogging the ball and there was hardly any opportunities for my team," said Ng.
In other matches, last season's runner-up Bo_Bo_Shooters continued their dismal run with a 0-0 draw with Motamafacai and without a win for this season. This has left them in 7th place with 2 points and last season's achievements looks to be beyond them this season. Watches, 3rd last season, continued the pressure on Cyco with a narrow 2-1 away win at hUbBy while CLUB ROMEO fell 0-3 to Minnows at home.
Having dispatched both the 2nd and 4th teams of last season with 5-0 victories at home, the pressure is on Cyco now to turn the screws on Watches in next Sunday's league match at Watches Arena. |

Winger Denis Pacheco rues another missed chance against Minnows in a league match
After a one season hiatus, CycoSports is back to bring the latest news on Cyco C.F. For the last season, Cyco achieved a respectable sixth in division III. Several notable players left, such as midfielders Avichay Nagar and Pekka Uuksinen and striker Mohd Hussein bin Rasdi. In their places, winger Denis Pacheco and defender Fernan Tome have joined the payroll of Cyco.
In today's Cup match against fellow division IV club ummishah, sq802 opted to rest several players from Sunday's league match. Nevertheless, the backline and goalkeeper were very much 1st-choice starters. The contest was effectively settled within the first 12 minutes when third choice striker Ernesto Ortiz, in a performance that still proved his worth, fired in a brace within 60 seconds of each other. Promising midfielder Carlo Kruger added the third in the 12th minute and killed off any sense of resistance from ummishah. Cyco still had the luxury of missing 4 clear cut chances to extend the scoreline, but 3 goals in the first 12 minutes proved too much for ummishah, who had opted for a cautious approach.
sq802 said after the match, "I am very pleased by Ernesto's performance today and I certain hope that he can continue to lead the frontline in future matches. It worries me, though, that we continue to waste good chances. This may well haunt us in the future."
When asked about Cyco's chances of progressing past round 4, sq802 replied, "The furthest we have gotten to in the Cup is round 4. Anything past that is unknown territory for us and I will take it one step at a time. I would rather concentrate on the league at the moment."
In other news, Cyco's league mates Watches, hUbBy and CLUB ROMEO got knocked out of the lastest round of the Singapore Cup. With only the league to play for, this Sunday's league match against hUbBy could well represent a potential banana skin for Cyco. |

Cyco's Benedykt Malcherczyk (right) tussles with neo277's Thomas Garvey for the ball
It has been expected and it came as Cyco notched a textbook 3-0 win over neo277 united to go 3 points clear on top with only 1 game to play. Although Cyco has one finger on the title, q802 made it clear that nothing is guaranteed as Cyco faces the problem of having to secure the title without being over the auto-promotion barrier.
Luca Aquino continued his fine form as he notched a brace in the first half, the 1st coming from a cross from the left flank and the 2nd from a poor backpass by neo277's defenders. Defender Tuomas Toiminen put the icing on the cake after fellow defender Malcherczyk's header following a corner was parried by the keeper. Winger Alexandrino Moreira had a fine game but spoiled it with his hattrick of misses.
sq802 refused to attend the post-match conference, citing "post-match headaches" and let Aquino take his place instead. "I am very happy to have scored 2 goals and repay the manager's faith in me," said Aquino. He also reiterated his wish that Cyco clinches the title, even if it meant him losing the Golden Boot award. However, that looks unlikely as Aquino is now 3 goals clear at the top scorers' list.
In other results, MOJI all but secured the 2nd place with 5-0 win over Blackburn Rovers. HG United also guaranteed themselves 3rd place after trouncing Three Little Pigs 6-0. Silver Melody avoided the dreaded auto-relegation after completing a 3-0 victory over Soaring Hawkz. |

MOJI midfielder Ola Ericsson turns in the first equaliser, but it was not enough
As if last week's embarrassing 0-0 draw with HG United was not enough, Cyco got 2 of its defenders, Benedykt Malcherczyk and Ma Chien-Hei got themselves banned for the match against MOJI, especially Malcherczyk getting a yellow card after an untimely injury by Diogo Neves. With their best defenders gone, sq802 had no choice but to name a 4-5-1 lineup with striker Luca Aquino plying his trade upfront. It was a surprise, however, that MOJI opted to defend and counterattack, rendering their superb attacks useless for most of the match.
Juste Claret opened the scoring for Cyco before Ola Ericsson equalised 3 minutes later. Aquino then gave Cyco the lead 120 seconds later before Radosław Kropiński sent the teams into half-time tied at 2-2. In the 2nd half, it was all one way for Cyco as Doug Wright notched his 7th league goal before Aquino completed his brace with a predatory pounce just past the hour mark.
sq802 said, "This win has certainly gave us the initiative in the league again and the time to claim our first title is finally here. I hope we will continue on this momentum and win the last 2 games."
In other results, Soaring Hawkz was relegated after a 0-0 draw with neo277 united. HG kept up their pressure on MOJI with a 4-0 drubbing of Blackburn Rovers Fan and Three Little Pigs kept the relegation battle interesting with a 2-1 win over Silver Melody. |

Players of ThReE LiTtLe PiGs despairing when the 5th goal went in
7-0 should have left most teams happy, but Cyco was still not satisfied. In a one-sided match, Ernesto Ortiz notched a hattrick while Alexandrino Moreira scored a brace with Doug Wright and Carlos Kruger scoring the rest. However, MOJI made light work of their 2nd strongest league opponent this season, HG United, by dispatching them 8-0. This, coupled with at least 3 missed chances by Cyco, meant that MOJI is now level on goal difference with Cyco and Cyco is only 1st by virtue of 1 more goal scored compared to MOJI.
In an otherwise uneventful match, sq802 was left worried for a moment when Pekka Uuksinen went down after a crunching tackle, but he recovered to complete the match, thereby ensuring that Avichay Nagar is the only one in the treatment room. Even then, sq802 indicates that Nagar would probably be able to play in the midweek friendly.
In other matches, Blackburn Rovers Fan edged Soaring Hawkz 2-0 who has not scored neither a point nor a goal this season. Silver Melody beat neo277 united 1-0 in the last match in IV.3. |

Avichay Nagar grimaces as the physio takes a look at his injury
Cyco continued to lead the pack at IV.3 with a commanding 5-1 victory at Silver Melody. With MOJI continuing to pile pressure, Cyco can ill-afford to drop any points and they responded to the pressure with style.
Doug Wright took less than 120 seconds to find a loophole in Melody's defence. A careless pass found Wright at the edge of the penalty box and he made no mistake in volleying the ball home. Ernesto Ortiz found himself into the referee's book with a cynical foul 4 minutes later. In the 17th minute, a rapid move by Melody enabled Yang Hock Wei to equalise. However, Cyco striker Luca Aquino then put the ball home 6 minutes later to reassert Cyco's lead. A minute later, Alexandrino Moreira rifled home a penalty to put the game beyond doubt. Aquino then scored his second 20 minutes into the 2nd half while Auguste Chan completed the scoring a minute later.
However, the victory came at a price. Midfield kingpin Avichay Nagar was injured after a challenge and had to be replaced. A post-game scan revealed that he would be out for 3 weeks at least. He was not the only unlucky one. Melody's Jolyon van Schaffelaer and Shlomo Dahan also found themselves on the operating table, although Dahan escaped with a minor injury and could play on.
sq802 said, "What can I say? 4 matches into the season and still unbeaten. The only thing I could complain about is the fact that we failed to keep our clean sheet. We not only need to keep scoring goals, but must also ensure that our defence leak no goals."
When asked to comment on Nagar's injury, he said, "The lad is young and he will recover fast. I have already ordered an oxygen tent for him and engaged the top specialists in the country. He will play again very soon, no doubt about it."
In other matches, MOJI crushed soaring Hawkz 6-0, HG United whipped neo277 united 5-0 and ThReE LiTtLe PiGs edged out Blackburn Rovers Fan 2-1. |

HG United's Ronald Villau celebrates after scoring the equalising goal
Cyco asked questions, 5 of them to be exact, of HG United's defence when thus far they have conceded 1 goal in 3 league games. It was not surprising, given that sq802 opted to start both first choice strikers Ernesto Ortiz and Luca Aquino.
Doug Wright belied his age when he put Cyco twice in front. Diogo Neves, Ma Chien Hei and Luca Aquino scored the rest. Avichay Nagar first attempted a shot on goal before losing the ball needlessly to the vistors who proceeded to equalise. It was regrettable for Nagar as he put in an otherwise splendid performance on the park. It was also a welcome relief for Aquino who missed a one-on-one in the previous match against MOJI which could have given Cyco 3 precious points.
sq802 said, "It was a very good reply to the Cup loss earlier this week. I wish that we stay on top till the end of the season." However, he said, "Going top is not easy and staying there is even more difficult. With MOJI level on points with us and the goal difference's difference between us is 3, the main priority is to keep scoring as many goals as we can now." That responsibility rests mainly on Aquino's shoulders now as Ortiz finds himself unable to reproduce the form he showed last season.
In other matches, MOJI scored 2 late goals to secure a 4-0 win over neo277 united and leapfrogged past HG United into 2nd place. ThReE LiTtLe PiGs brushed aside Soaring Hawkz 4-0 while a defensive matchup between Blackburn Rovers Fan and Silver Melody saw Blackburn claim 3 precious points with a solitary goal 3 minutes from time. |

neo277 shows his frustration as Cyco is awarded another penalty again
Cyco posted a 4th consecutive victory and extended their unbeaten run to 16 matches today against neo277 united, who themselves had a 16 match unbeaten run snapped. It was a largely scrappy affair, but Cyco managed to grind out a 2-0 win.
Cycodel was sold out for this match and heavy rain was no barrier for the fans as they waited to watch the 1st home match for Cyco this season. sq802 probably disappointed some fans when he lined up his backup team with an eye on Wednesday's Cup match. neo277 opted for a 4-3-3 formation that went for destructive play. It did not start well for neo277 united as Sahabudin bin Sofian was sent off in the 16th minute. A penalty decision went Cyco's way 7 minutes later and Chua Jian Shun converted the penalty to give Cyco the lead. In the 2nd half, Cyco was awarded another penalty and Chua again put it home to double the lead and kill the game.
There was some rumours that the referee was biased as his 3 major decisions went the home side's way. However, sq802 refuted those claims. "The referee is not biased as he gave a yellow card to Tuomas (Toiminen). I believe we won because of our abilities and we certainly need no offical intervention to win a match," said sq802. He added, "We must not let this take attention away from the splendid performance of the lads, especially Jian Shun. He led by example throughout the match and showed why Cyco chose to keep faith with him over so many seasons."
In IV.3, HG United played the big bad wolf as they chomped up newcomer ThReE LiTtLe PiGs 7-0. MOJI continued their pressure on Cyco with a 5-0 win over Blackburn Rovers and Silver Melody crushed Soaring Hawkz 6-0. |
