Fall 2009 Season UNDERWAY!!! Wednesday, September 16, 2009

And we're off... :)

Hello soccer enthusiasts, and welcome to the Fall 2009 McGill Soccer Intramurals!! September marks the beginning of many things at McGill: new classes, new faces, new friends, and new weather. But more importantly (as far as we're concerned at least), a new intramural soccer season!! :)

And what a season this promises to be!! 72 teams in the starting blocks and after the huge success of this Summer, the first-time ever Fall semester of Co-Rec outdoor! Some new rules to adapt to, but also a chance to finally share the footy action between boys & girls!

Here's our final Division configuration:

Men's A 8 teams
Men's B 26 teams
Men's C 7 teams
Women's A 4 teams
Women's B 7 teams
Co-Rec B 15 teams
Co-Rec C 5 teams

Following the 5-game regular season, the A & B divisions will have a single elimination playoff in order to crown a champion. Players from each winning team will be eligible to receive the very prized McGill intramural mugs featured below!!!

So good luck for the title chase everyone, and we hope you all enjoy the competition!

July 2009 - Topscorer WINNERS Monday, August 24, 2009

A little late on the update one could say, but this month of August has been rather busy in the soccer world. It's the time of pre-season friendlies, it's the time of training camps, and most importantly it's the time when European leagues return to action and championships to resume, all for our greatest delight! Why our very own McGill Intramurals will soon resume in just a few weeks!

Before that takes place let us take a quick look on the winners from our July 2009 Intramurals of 7vs7 Soccer, our first ever version of Outdoor Soccer under this format which, based on the matches that were played, was a great success and will most likely be offered again next year!

In Men's B, it was quite a race all the way to the end! His two-week hiatus was fatal for Ahmet Turkdogan in order to retain his crown, and yet the MISN Impossible forward and all-time intramural topscorer still managed to rank 4th. Instead however, glory & honours went to Brian Hamilton of The Yids fame: despite his team did not make it past the semi-finals, Brian found the back of the net enough times during the season to claim its topscorer title, with a nice total of 23 !! He precedes MISN Impossible winger Badi Abu Sheikha (21 ) and Uncle Ruckus forward (and June 2009 topscorer) Ryan Lauzon (19 ).

In Co-Rec B, the mid-season rankings seemed to have given their verdict: a +8 lead over his pursuers heavily stacked the odds in favor of Ahmet Turkdogan (yes, him again). However, the absolutely smashing scoring form of Three Points or None team-mate William Scott Johnston allowed the TPON defender/midfielder/forward/team mascot to take his rivals by storm and claim the title with a whopping 21 !! Ahmet and June 2009 topscorer Michael Lanktree were left in the dust. As for the female category, Jamie Bolduc claimed the prize with 9 , making it a treble for Three Points or None this month: CRB title and two topscoring champions! Congratulations!

That's all for now! See you all very soon on the fields of Molson & Forbes for the FALL 2009 OUTDOOR LEAGUE!!!

July 2009 - Pre-PLAYOFFS Update Tuesday, July 28, 2009
Hello soccer enthusiasts!

We are now one full month into the Summer season and three full weeks into the McGill July Soccer Intramurals. While the city of Montreal keeps buzzing with life festival after festival (Jazz, Just for Laughs, Francofolies... you name it), the fields of Molson Stadium & Forbes bear witness to some unique changes in the history of soccer intramurals.

Indeed, for the very first time 7vs7 soccer was proposed for the Summer season, a format which was not only universally well-received but in the end proved quite easy to implement. I am sure you all familiar by now with the orange "cones & pancakes" used to limit the sidelines of the field & penalty box, and these will come once again quite in handy as intramural participants prepare for the much-anticipated PLAYOFF bout!

But before that begins, let's have a look at the top of the scoring charts shall we? Scorers and team rankings have been updated for all games up to and including Sunday July 26th.

In Men's B, despite being M.I.A. for over one week (he left for a short holiday to Nova Scotia) goalscorer extraordinare Ahmet Turkdogan is at it again! With 18 to his total, the MISN Impossible forward and all-time intramural topscorer has a very good chance of grabbing topscorer title nş8. But watch out for Brandon Cook (Bucky Balls ) and Brian Hamilton (The Yids )! Sitting at 15 , they might have something to say about that!

In Co-Rec B, once again no surprises to see Ahmet Turkdogan dominate the proceedings as well, this time with 19 for team Three Points or None. And much unlike the MB division, 2nd-ranked Michael Lanktree (LFU) and Mehdi Sanjari (Takless) are left way behind at 11 . Will this season be witness to another double for "AC"?

That's all for now! Tune in next week-end for a July season epilogue!
